I have always LOVED giraffes for a very long time, so my boyfriend was sweet enough to take me today to Idle-Hour for a late Sweetest Day present:) I had the most greatest time interacting with all of the animals, including the precious Sam♥

Can you even believe one of our nicest compliments was a customized video made by a very nice lady- Rene Bechard. This was a truly remarkable tribute to our Ranch.

I am in awe of the ranch. When I discovered this place a couple years ago it felt like coming "home". It's where I come in the Summer to de-stress and revert to be a little kid again full of excitement & wonder. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the amazing ranch and the wonderful way you treat your animals ♥

Idle Hour Ranch in Troy Ohio
Saturday, June 5, 2010 at 10:29am
Located not far off 75, this place is hands down top notch family/kid FUN. And for all ages, not just kids. Make no mistake, this is a place that is geared from ages 0 to death.
This is a family owned ranch located in Troy Ohio. The family even lives on the premises. This ranch is the host of animals that were originally chosen and kept for live nativity scenes. And one thing led to another and now it is like a personal hands on interactive zoo.
This is a relaxed safe environment for kids of all ages. (all is fenced in, the ENTIRE RANCH! The animals are all very friendly and love to be petted and fed. My personal favorite is the giraffe named Sam. I have waited in many zoo lines and dropped $10.00 for one piece of food. Waited in a long line with no guarantee there would be food left, and if there was, it was quickly given and that was that. I never truly realized how blessed I was to have a REAL one on one experience with a giraffe until I came to Idle~Hour Ranch. Sam the giraffe is more like a over-sized dog who loves to be petted and fed. The family has built a top rated deck that puts you at eye to eye view as well with Sam. It is a very safe completely fenced in area up high and it's to me possibly a once in a life time chance to get this interaction with a giraffe.
Animal Food Feeding baskets range from $5.00 to $12.00 and you won't be disappointed in the quantity.
Many animals are here at the ranch, some I had never heard of like "Singing Dogs or Cavey". And to have that chance to pet them was remarkable. The relaxed area is priceless. Kids get the opportunity to play at their own pace here at Idle~Hour Ranch. They have a great swing~set that is under two very large shaded trees, and nearby is a the bunny area that you can go into and sit and play with bunnies. I do believe the owner is correct when he says, "if you have small children, you may want to pass this up first because if not, they may never want to leave the bunnies". This is very true! Goats, Yaks, Emu and all sorts await you at Idle~Hour.
This ranch is only open from June thru October and only Friday/Saturday/Sunday.
The family was all very nice and very helpful, having conversations with you and asking how you are enjoying your visit. They are happy to share their stories about life on the ranch and how they got started. Their visions and anything else you may be interested about.
They have a small gift shop and also have soda, food and ice cream. Again this is a low key place and a complete family atmosphere.
Here are my personal notes from experience.
Wear Sunscreen. yes, there is plenty of shade, but again, it's summer, show up with sunscreen and have more to add later because with kids you may be surprised just how long you stay!
WATER...I can't tell you how important this is. Water and drinks. They do sell it on site, but if your on a budget or have many kids with you (I had 6, so yes I left broke) you may want to have your own.
They do have an outhouse. (edited by IHR - they are actually port-a-lets- real flush toilets are coming soon!). There are no "formal" bathrooms. There is more hand sanitizer on the premises then I believe I have ever seen in my life.
Bring your camera. I know this is obvious, but again, BRING IT!
MY NOTE~~~~> (continued I know) NOW...before you say anything of the sort, the Zoo is possibly cheaper on admission and yes there may be more animals in quantity. Realize here at Idle~ Hour Ranch, it's QUALITY. It's personal and all my children including myself preferred this over all the zoos we have been to. Also know this is a great cause here at Idle~Hour, it's family owned and what is much better than supporting hard working individuals and not your corporate chain. Their income is made up primarily of the Open to Public Time frame...June/July/August/September & October. So , go enjoy and I promise you this is something you will be happy went to!!!
5 Star, all the way!!!

Michelle,
This letter is long overdue. About Five years ago, I had lost my position with the company I was working for and our finances were the tightest I can ever remember. We were within days of losing our electricity and the pantry was bare. If it had not been for the generosity of Idle Hour Ranch and your benevolence fund we would have not made it through the tough time. The money given to our family from the Idle Hour Ranch benevolence fund allowed us to keep our electricity on and feed the family.
Since then, I started my own business and we have truly been blessed to the point that we have been able to help others in need just as you helped us in our time of need. The Idle Hour Ranch is such an uplifting organization and we wish you continued success and growth.
Thank you and God Bless,
Brian C
